Grindwell Norton Ltd.
Founded in 1941, Grindwell Abrasives, as Grindwell Norton was then known, pioneered the manufacture of grinding wheels in India. Grindwell Norton (GNO) came into being in 1970, through a partnership between Grindwell and Norton Company, USA, the then world leader in abrasives. In 1990, Saint-Gobain acquired Norton Company, USA, worldwide, and six years later, GNO became the first majority-owned subsidiary of Saint-Gobain in India.

Today, GNO is India’s leading manufacturer of Abrasives (Bonded, Coated, Non-Woven, Superabrasives and Thin Wheels) and Silicon Carbide. It also manufactures and markets High Performance Refractories and Performance Plastics products. GNO’s Project Engineering Group (PEG) is a proven engineering resource for Saint-Gobain companies the world over.

Headquartered in Mumbai, GNO manufacturing locations are seven, they are, (Mora near Mumbai, Nagpur, Bangalore, Tirupati, Halol near Vadodara, Himachal Pradesh and Bhutan) and 12 sales offices across the country. Two new projects have been recently launched. The Himachal Pradesh Abrasives site for manufacture of Thin Wheels and Coated Discs commenced commercial production in May’08. Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials Bhutan Pvt. Ltd., a majority owned joint venture with a local partner in Bhutan, has set up a plant to produce 13000 tons of Silicon Carbide (SiC).
